Seagate Ships 3TB Monster

Seagate recently began shipments of the Barracuda XT hard drive, a 3TB behemoth that allows users to take advantage of every bit of that capacity without the need for additional hardware or software. To date, this is the highest available drive capacity in a single unit.

Legacy PC BIOS designs and device drivers and older operating systems such as Windows XP are incapable of using hard drive capacities beyond 2.1TB. The upshot is that existing desktop drives with more than 2.1TB of storage capacity must be deployed with additional software or hardware and may also require extra device drivers to overcome this limitation.

The Barracuda XT hard drive with free Seagate DiscWizard software is a complete, easy-to-deploy solution. DiscWizard software makes it simple to configure the computer operating system and device drivers to access the full 3TB of capacity on legacy systems using Windows XP and PC BIOS and on personal computers equipped with newer versions of Windows or the new UEFI BIOS. The new DiscWizard software is available for free download at www.seagate.com/beyond-2TB.com. (more…)

MSI Beefs Up Quality Standards

In a renewed effort to bolster credibility in the reliability department, MSI has now equipped all their Intel Series 6 platforms with the MSI Military Class II standard. These include temperature, stress and humidity tests according to the US Department of Defense component standards, in an effort to provide complete proof of reliability to end users.

To ensure stable and uninterrupted power supply for the pulse-width modulation (PWM) zone on the CPU, MSI equips its mainboards with the Hi-c CAP, which is commonly used on aerospace and military products. In addition to outstanding stability in high and low working temperature, Hi-c CAPs are made with the rare element tantalum, which has a lifespan eight times longer than solid caps.  Hi-c CAP is the best component for ultimate performance and stability in OC and high workload environments. Gigabyte Ships All New B3 6 Series Motherboards

Late last month Gigabyte began shipping their totally redesigned 6 series motherboards featuring the new Intel B3 stepping chipsets. Now available around the world, these new boards have been totally redesigned and renamed so that they can easily be distinguished from the older B2 versions through the signature ‘B3’ at the end of the model name.

For example, the GA-P67A-UD7 has been replaced by the GA-P67A-UD7-B3 and the GA-H67A-UD3H has been replaced by the GA-H67A-UD3H-B3. The new model name is highly visible on the retail box, PCB, in the BIOS at start up and on applications such as the GIGABYTE 6 Series SATA Check utility and CPU-Z. (more…)
