Webster Heads Both EMC SEA and ANZ

EMC Corporation has announced that David Webster, currently the President of EMC Australia New Zealand (ANZ), has assumed the senior leadership role for EMC South East Asia (SEA) while continuing to lead the EMC business in ANZ.

In this new extended role, Webster will be responsible for driving the strategic growth and operational performance across both the ANZ and SEA regions.

Webster will oversee all EMC ANZ and SEA business functions, amongst which includes development of leadership talent, programs for enhancing relationships with customers and partners, and supporting EMC’s ongoing effort in accelerating our customers’ journey to the private cloud.

Each of the ANZ and SEA regions will continue to have its own management team under a common direction and executive leadership of David Webster. (more…)

Mobile Marketing to Hit 2011 Hard

In a short period of the last few years, mobile platforms and devices have seen a dramatic change in both technology as well as acceptance. Barely three years ago, the iPhone and Kindle revolutionized the mobile industry, paving the way for other platforms such as the iPad as well as Android based devices.

The trend has now become pervasive as can be seen by a vast majority of client-side marketers (88 percent) saying they will utilize mobile marketing in 2011.  75 percent plan to increase their spending on mobile marketing initiatives, according to a new survey from the ANA (Association of National Advertisers) in partnership with the MMA (Mobile Marketing Association).

The survey, conducted online during September-October 2010 identified 97 respondents – all client-side marketers largely from the ANA’s membership – that specifically indicated their intent to utilize mobile marketing in 2011 and asked these marketers a battery of questions about their experience and observations with the medium. Proton to Adopt Oracle’s Siebel CRM

Oracle has just clinched a deal to implement Oracle’s Siebel Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system for Proton Holdings Berhad. With the implementation, Proton hopes to enhance customer satisfaction by standardising operations across its Marketing, Sales, After-Sales and Call Centre functions.

Proton has selected Oracle after a detailed evaluation process that emphasised on the comprehensiveness and robustness of the solution and the capability and experience of its implementation services.

“In recent years, PROTON has initiated a number of customer-oriented activities, and with the CRM project in place, this will further strengthen the company’s efforts to achieve greater heights in customer relationship and satisfaction,” said PROTON Director of Group Marketing and After Sales Ms. Yohani Yusof. Malaysian Blogger Faces RM6 Million Lawsuit

Popular blogger Poh Huai Bin, owner of Sixthseal.com, is currently facing charges of defamation for his remarks on an Indian restaurant in Malaysia.

The move by Jothy’s Fish Head Curry restaurant director Tharumaraj Sivaperumal involves a whopping RM6 million and has been filed in civil suit at the Kota Kinabalu High Court. Jothy’s has also named Google Inc as a second defendant in the suit.

Apparently, Poh has named Jothy’s as “The Worst Fish Head Curry and Banana Leaf Restaurant in the Known Universe”, despite the restaurant being featured, in the global television and book series Lonely Planet.

While we certainly do see responsible journalism as a necessity, we’re also quite sure that taste is a matter of individual opinion and whether or not the attempt to claim for alleged damages arising from Poh’s remarks will go through remains to be seen. (more…)

Juniper Posts Record Q4 2010 Financial Results

While many companies worldwide are still recovering from the economic downturn, some tech companies such as Intel, Fortinet and Juniper Networks have been posting excellent financial results.

Just today, Juniper reported preliminary financial results for the three and twelve months ended December 31, 2010. Q4 alone saw a US$1.19 billion in revenue, up 26 percent from the same quarter in 2009. The final quarter saw the highest percentage increase for the year.

Juniper’s total revenue for 2010 peaked at US$4.093 billion, up 23 percent from 2009 with an operating margin of 19.1 percent GAAP; 24.5 percent non-GAAP.

The Company posted GAAP net income of US$190.2 million, or US$0.35 per diluted share, and non-GAAP net income of US$228.6 million, or US$0.42 per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of 2010.  Included in both the GAAP and non-GAAP net income per share is approximately US$0.03 per share favorable impact due to the extension of R&D tax credit.
