Sudden Rise of the Tablet

It is getting quite ridiculous, all the news coming out about the iPad. It was reported quite recently that the American Customer Satisfaction Index  (ACSI) rated the iPad at 86 points out of a 100.

Purportedly the iPad scored higher than any of the products ACSI has ever tracked. Quite a glowing endorsement if you think about it. But the thing is, tablet technology is not exactly new. Microsoft has been trying to flog off tablet PCs  for awhile now but they haven’t exactly set the world on fire. (more…)

How Secure Are You Online?

The Internet frees up the flow of information and yet also gives cyber criminals easy access to the gullible. Arming himself with a firewall, anti-virus software and a firm resolve not to open ‘unsafe’ attachments, the average user still gets feelings of unease.

After all, Internet transactions are becoming more and more common and necessary — yet still fraught with risk. Imagine if someone were to be able to siphon off all your money from your account to another’s. Or use your credit card. Perhaps that person might figure out how to snoop on your hard drive and find incriminating photos you don’t want people seeing on the Internet. (more…)

Apple, The Living Legend

Amidst a global sky of technology lies somewhere in North America the lair of a corporation that has grown to what is now a financially frightening army with millions of devoutly loyal followers. Apple, strongly shrouded around a web of secrecy and built from a single man’s vision is now a tech giant that has built itself up from humble beginnings.

This is not the first time that we have seen technology erupt from things that have been created to improve our lives in some way or another into what can be seen as cults with faithful devotees. Phones Just Keep Getting Smarter

Smartphones have seen a huge surge in popularity over the last few months. Apple’s iPhone is no longer the only ‘it phone’ as customers begin to clamour for more choices. They certainly are getting it, with the plethora of Android phones available as well as the upcoming Microsoft Windows Phone launch.

What has changed? Is it the consumers? Is it the technology? The reality is that the ecosystem has changed. Apple started the ball rolling with its iPhone that was created to appeal to consumers, not to pander to what telcos dictated. (more…)

Has Social Computing Changed Us?

When the Internet started gaining momentum in the mid to late 90’s, many of us didn’t anticipate how big a part it would play in our lives in the near future. Many brushed it off as mere child’s play or even as something only the privileged few can afford to fiddle with.

The Internet then was a cesspool of information scattered in homepages that didn’t aspire to be as attractive as they were informative, or at least, hoped to be. Interconnectivity was almost impossible as search engines were inefficient and slow, trawling through the web and spewing out anything without much relevancy. (more…)
